Really Great and Really Works!, April 6, 2007

If you're feeling discouraged or lacking direction, listen to this and other recordings like it. I like this one better than "Think and grow rich." Napoleon Hill has good guidance to keep you on track towards success and words that will lift your spirits and drive away the dark, negative thoughts that try to drag you down into failure. I think this recording should basically replace the bible. This IS my bible.

Lately, I have started asking my subconscious to give me guidance on what to do, to tell me what the best course would be to get to my goals. I recently started out with a certain business plan, but soon after I started, I realized that plan was seriously flawed. It would require too much work for too little profit. So I asked my subconscious to give me a better plan. I did this by visualizing getting the exact success I wanted. Within a day or two, I got a much better business plan from my subconscious. Then I asked for further help with the plan and I got that also. Now all the pieces are falling into place, and NOW, finally, it looks to me like success is imminent and I know exactly what I'm doing. I have recently studied marketing a lot, and I've also studied my particular field of business and thought about it. Then I left it up to my subconscious to process that information and give me the best plan to follow to achieve my goals. It all seems so easy now.

I used to be skeptical about using the power of my subconscious, but if you put yourself in a totally positive frame of mind and free yourself from doubts and fears, and then use the visualization techniques to see your success, then it DOES WORK. You open your mind to your subconscious and allow it to give you the answers you need - the direction and steps you need to proceed to your goals. You cast off your psychological limitations and allow yourself to proceed rapidly towards your goals. NEVER doubt your abilities. Do not worry about anything. But at the same time, act prudently, do your research, and use all the wisdom you've learned. Don't act foolishly or recklessly. Know what you're doing. Don't guess when you're starting a business.

Make sure you have plenty of paper and write down plenty of notes while you listen. You learn FAR better that way. Also it's nice to use pens of many different colors and alternate between them. Your notes stand out much more that way.

This is a 9 CD collection of live lectures that Hill conducted in Chicago in 1954. It covers the 17 Principles of Personal Achievement (also known as the 17 Keys to Success) over 12 hours. It amazes me that something so wonderful exists and is so inexpensive. I am more amazed by the fact that so few people are aware of it. It is a joy to hear the principles explained in Hill's own voice. I was not fortunate enough to take his classes, but this is the next best thing. This is the best way to get to know this great man. He was wise, humble and funny.
There are thousands of self-help books out in the market and hundreds of self proclaimed "gurus" who have made a living by copying the wisdom in Napoleon Hill's books. As I went through some of those books I realized that there was not much in them that Hill had not already written about. I recommend quality over quantity. Instead of reading through many books, I recommend that you study the following works of Hill and internalize his wisdom:
1. The Think and Grow Rich Action Pack (1937) - I recommend the Action Pack edition,
2. Napoleon Hill's Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement - this is an excellent guide to his principles,
3. Your Right To Be Rich [Unabridged] - this item.
By internalizing, I mean studying in depth - analyzing the ideas, making notes and summaries. I own more CDs by Hill, but I believe that these 3 items make the perfect study plan on the Philosophy of Personal Achievement.
This philosophy is the end product of two decades of research conducted by Napoleon Hill. His research started when Andrew Carnegie (the steel tycoon who was then the richest man on earth) gave him the assignment of organizing a Philosophy of Personal Achievement. Hill, who was a poor journalist, armed with just an introductory letter from Carnegie, set out to interview over five hundred successful people including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, John D. Rockefeller, George Eastman, William Wrigley Jr. and Charles M. Schwab. Hill then revealed the priceless wisdom of his research in the form of the thirteen steps to success (in Think and Grow Rich) and the seventeen principles of success (in courses and lectures he conducted).
The concepts taught by Napoleon Hill transformed my life. Some of these include developing a definite purpose, building a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA), channeling the power of the sub-conscious mind and dealing with adversity. Everything he wrote about or talked about is thought provoking. His philosophy is universal; he did not mix it with religion. The riches he referred to were more than money, for the Philosophy of Personal Achievement can be applied to anything in life.
Hill was well ahead of his time. "Think and Grow Rich" has a chapter dedicated to some of today's most important issues - Specialized Knowledge, Decision Making, Imagination and Organized Planning (in which he deals with Leadership). And his principles deal with Teamwork, Creative Vision, Health, etc.
I am greatly indebted to Napoleon Hill. The purpose of my writing this is to spread awareness of his work so that more people can benefit from it. This, I believe is the best way in which Hill would have liked to have been repaid.

The first edition of Make Their Day made plenty of mine. And the second is even more valuable.

I have been coaching executives, from the most senior to the most junior, for more than 15 years and have used Cindy's book religiously with all of them. I have counseled thousands to read it and use the information tucked inside.

In a small package, Make Their Day can make a huge impact in your life and in the lives of those around you.

If your goal is to create your legacy masterpiece and assist others in creating theirs, you need to absorb Make Their Day. Then commit to the principles and ideas inside.

Without commitment, nothing changes. Not you. Not them. Nothing.

You may pick up this 2009 edition of Make Their Day! to learn some things about improving your abiity to recognize others. It will certainly help you accomplish that. However, if you really take to heart the facts, examples and guidance that Cindy Ventrice provides, you will become a more respected and effective leader. Ms. Ventrice does a terrific job of showing you how to build a solid foundation of trust, respect, and caring that is essential if your attempts at recognition are to be believed and ultimately effective. It will help you establish or improve relations with others, and as Ms. Ventrice says, "Next to relationships, everything else is secondary."

Whether you want to create an organization-wide recognition program or just get better yourself, in your own department, you will find insightful information. And so many of the ideas shared have little or no cost. So even in tough economic times, you will deiscover opportunities to improve recognition without breaking your budget.

With nearly 30 years of supervisory and management experience, it was enjoyable reading about things that I do right, things that I had forgotten and need to re-establish, and to learn some new skills and/or methods. FASTER meetings was a particularly interesting concept that has great potential for helping people self-recognize.

As a manager I appreciated how Ms. Ventrice showed the importance of tying recognition to corporate values, goals, and measurement. After all, we want to encourage the right behaviors, ones that support our corporate direction, and to know if our efforts are achieving the desired results.

Anne Bruce and James S. Pepitone have written a basic, hands-on book about motivating employees more effectively. They emphasize the need for your employees to become self-motivated, since only intrinsic motivation truly works. The book provides good, specific suggestions about ways to increase motivation. However, its core principles sound familiar - like material from an Organizational Behavior 101 textbook. Nonetheless, this book provides a good, easy-to-read summary of these fundamental ideas. Great for first time managers, December 10, 1998

This book was a great inspiration for me. I am just starting out in my career in my first management position and I seek out different philosophies so that I can meld together the parts that I like in order to create a unique and effective management style. After reading Motivating Employees, I am eager to practice the theories in my current position and take with me what I have learned, to use at each stage of my career.

I expect this book to influence a lot of people in extremly positive ways because of its inviting format and practical theories.

Having read many books on motivation and leadership in the work place, I can't think of one that "hits home" as close as this one.

Its conversational, no-nonsense tone takes the reader through theory and application in an effective, easy-to-understand way. How refreshing to actually be able to understand the complexity of Theory X and Theory Y! And, not only that, but to be able to begin generating practical ideas as you read this book for your own work environment!

The format's quick tips and chapter highlights add valuable impact that keeps the reader thoroughly engaged. The book examines some of the world's most admired companies and their unique approaches to developing people and influencing positive motivation and overall morale.

As a senior manager for one of America's largest financial institutions, I highly recommend this book. I'm very eager to get started on the other books in this series.
